Havering Association for people with disabilities are proud to be celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2019. We have been supporting adults with disabilities and their carers throughout this time with a wide range of activities and services. To mark this important milestone we are planning a busy year of celebrations, fundraising and activities and we would like everyone to be involved.
We are aware that during our longstanding time in the community, hundreds if not thousands of people have been involved in HAD, either receiving support from us or volunteering for HAD in various ways, we would love to hear from as many past and present members and volunteers hearing your stories and memories of Havering Association for People with Disabilities, we would like to call this a ‘HAD Moment’
Without the support of our clients, volunteers and supporters of HAD we would not be able to thrive. We have partial funding from the London Borough of Havering but more and more having to rely on donations from companies and individuals in order to keep the services we offer relevant and to a high standard. This year we are proud to have achieved a Trusted Charity Quality Mark.
We are pleased that we have been chosen by GBP Estates Romford to be their chosen charity for 2019 and are planning many fundraising events in partnership with them. Already this year they have amazed us with their ideas, energy and support. All GBP Estates staff are taking the time to become Ambassadors for Havering Association for People with Disabilities, learning about our services to enable them to promote to potential clients. We are still inviting groups, businesses and organisations to support HAD during 2019. Suttons primary school are supporting us with fundraising activities, their first one will be wearing funky socks for Charity. If your school or group would are able to get involved please get in touch.
During this milestone we are inviting our clients to ‘try something new’ each month throughout the year and we are planning events that will hopefully challenge and excite people. The ideas planned to date include science workshops, stone painting, visit to an Art Gallery and our Art group will be hosting an art exhibition to display their masterpieces.
We offer many activities and classes throughout the week including Art, Chair based exercise, Health and Wellbeing classes, computer lessons and much more. All these classes are very well attended and we help many people every week gain and increase their confidence and encourage active participation in their community. This provides them with a voice, choices and control over their lives.
There are many other exciting events in the pipeline, including A Charity Football Match 23rd June 2019 at Aveley Football Club, Cheryl from the office is taking part in the London to Southend Bike Ride on the 14th July and our annual garden party, this year will be a 60’s theme to tie in with our 50th on Saturday 20th July.
All these events and much more will be on Social Media, H.A.D Newsletter and our website along with posters around the H.A.D. building. Please get in touch if you feel you can help in any way, and we look forward to seeing as many old and new faces at these amazing events.
How can you get involved? …. Become a H.A.D. Hero and take a challenge, attend one of our fundraising events or give your time with volunteering
